Can a Patronus Charm protect me from a bad movie?

July 16th, 2007 by Jason
Harry Potter

Despite the fact that Daniel Radcliffe turns 18 next week, Harry Potter is only in his fifth year at Hogwarts. This wouldn’t be entirely bad if it weren’t for the fact that David Yates shows a flashback sequence every five minutes depicting Harry Potter as this eight-year-old child, but I was able to get over it.

Ratatouille

July 5th, 2007 by Jason
Ratatouille

Last weekend, I went out with my girlfriend and saw “Ratatouille” at one of the newly built Marcus Theaters, the Majestic. Although I thought the gaudy, over-the-top, money pit, that is the Majestic was nothing worth writing about, “Ratatouille” on the other hand is quite the contrary.

“Ratatouille” is Pixar’s newest animated masterpiece. Remember those guys that brought us movies like “The Incredibles”, “Toy Story”, and “Finding Nemo”? Yeah, they’re back and this time, better than ever.

Live Free or Die Hard

June 27th, 2007 by Jason
Bruce Willis

Due to working a long and tiring shift last night, I was completely fed up with our piece of shit projectors. So, I decided I’d reward myself and run Live Free or Die Hard.

I’ve been following this movie since I heard of its release and to tell you the truth, I wasn’t expecting anything good to come from another Die Hard movie. I loved the first three, but after hearing of Live Free or Die Hard’s PG-13 rating I lost all hope. What’s a Die Hard movie without John McClane being the disgruntled cop he is? His entire vocabulary is based off the word fuck.

Fantastic Four: Rise of another bad movie

June 17th, 2007 by Jason

I ended up getting out to see Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer last night. I’ll tell you right now, don’t waste your time on this one. Everything I hated in the first one came back in full force for the sequel.

Sunshine Official Release Date

June 7th, 2007 by Kevin

Sunshine, the movie I’ve been most eagerly awaiting for quite some time, is now scheduled to come out on July 20, 2007. I’m still unhappy that this didn’t come out in the US in early April like it did everywhere else in the world, but at least they moved it up from September. I can’t wait.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Hopefully at Movie’s End

May 29th, 2007 by Kevin

When Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl came out a few years ago, it drew a lot of attention before its release. There were posters and banners everywhere and people were just starting to really fall in love with Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp on a mass scale. I remember being semi-excited for its release, so much so that I decided to run a late night with some of my friends. As it turns out, I wasn’t a very big fan of the movie. Overall it was a pretty big mess with poor writing and incredibly sloppy, haphazard action scenes. On the other hand, it had some moments that were made bearable by Johnny Depp’s delivery or reactions. All in all, I could at least understand what made it an appealing movie for a mass audience. It had action, swashbuckling, romance, humor, loud music and swashbuckling action. After all, it is pretty tough to screw up a movie about pirates right? All you need is a pirate ship and some swashbuckling.

Who’s Got Good FX?

May 14th, 2007 by Kevin

I found a list of the Top 50 Most Influential Visual Effects Films of All Time. It would be a little nicer if they gave a little blurb next to some of them about how they changed effects of why they’re so special (i.e. 1. Underworld - For their ability to hide Kate Beckinsale’s leather clad camel toe and force all men age 10 - 110 to say, “Damn computer technology and damn you Len Wiseman!” At least its pretty easy to figure out why most of them made the list. My only question is why no 300? That movie was BadAss!

Spider-man 4 Villains?

May 7th, 2007 by Kevin

I guess it only makes sense that the record holding franchise for a new release would start talking about a sequel right away. If the rumors are true, they’re really starting to flood these movies with all villains that any Spidey fan could every possibly want to see. Personally I have always been a fan of The Shocker (that’s what she said), but I guess he’s not supernatural enough for the direction the movies seem to be going. Either way, The Lizard is pretty cool too.

Ratatouille

May 1st, 2007 by Kevin

Disney just posted 9 minutes of their upcoming film Ratatouille on their website. It comes with an intro by writer/director Brad Bird. I think this movie is going to be awesome and the animation looks great. Had I remembered at the time that this movie was coming out this year I would have placed it right with Sunshine and Spider-man 3 as my most anticipated movies of the year.

Another Star Wars Time Waster

May 1st, 2007 by Kevin

I found another Star Wars quiz on the infobahn. This time however, its a test to see which Star Wars character you are. Its pretty good to play with for a bit (that’s what she said), but I’m not sure how great of an authority it is. The first time I took it I was deemed to be Han Soloesque. When I went through a second time with slightly different answers I was unfairly labeled Jar Jar Binks. How Rude! Can I file a libel suit against randomly generated internet quiz that I willfully took the time to fill out?

Next

April 28th, 2007 by Jason
Jessica Biel

I ended up going out with my girlfriend last night to see Nicholas Gage’s new action/thriller Next based off a story written by Philip K. Dick. Philip K. Dick, if you don’t already know, is the brilliant mind behind the stories such as Blade Runner, Minority Report, and A Scanner Darkly. Unfortunately, Next didn’t hold it’s ground against any of the movies previously mentioned.

Although the premise was good, Next fell short on quite a few levels.

New Magneto Movie

April 27th, 2007 by Kevin

Fox has announced plans to release a new X-Men spin-off about the villain Magneto. David Goyer is apparently going to direct the movie and it won’t be starring Ian McKellen as the master of magnetism. This is not a good thing. Ian McKellen is awesome and he’s NOT a wizard. They are shooting for a younger actor to portray the characters of Magneto and Charles Xavier. In all seriousness, I should play Magneto. I would be kick ass. At least I can guarantee that I won’t be anywhere near as gay as the guy Fox will most assuredly cast.

Do you know Zombies

April 27th, 2007 by Kevin

The BBC has come up with a little quiz to test your knowledge of zombie movies. I got a 9 out of 10. My guess it we’ll all be chasing Goggins on these. If there’s one thing he knows, its zombies…… zombies and saltwater taffy.

The Top 11 Guy Movies of All Time Suck

April 25th, 2007 by Kevin

Usually when I see these types of lists on the internet I wind up completely disappointed by how awful the list ends up being. Fortunately for me (and you) I found a website, that still doesn’t have great lists, but they are decent and somewhat funny in the process. I randomly came upon this list of the Top Eleven Guy Movies of all time and Why They Secretly Suck and immediately thought they were all going to be Arnold/Sly movies. Personally I think that would be a little funnier, but the list for the most part is good. Also, have fun with some of the other lists. It is definitely a website that you can blow about twenty minutes on.

More Spider-Man with extra webbing please

April 21st, 2007 by Jason
Black Spider Man

Before I write this, I must tell you I haven’t seen Spider-Man 3 in it’s entirety. This is mostly due to the fact that Kal Penn is a jackass and his movie The Namesake showed up late, but I’ll rant about that later. Don’t worry, there won’t be any spoilers.

New Bruce Banner

April 17th, 2007 by Kevin

It appears that Edward Norton is definitely going to be playing Bruce Banner in next years The Incredible Hulk. That seems like an ok fit. Bruce Banner is just a scientist/nerdy looking guy. Ed Norton can probably pull that off. I just think its funny how everyone is basically treating this new Hulk movie as a mulligan for the first. It seems they all want to forget that movie ever happened, which I think is too bad. I liked Ang Lee’s Hulk. Personally I think the Hulk is a pretty useless character for the most part and at least that movie made him a little interesting.

Spider-Man 3 in Japanese

April 16th, 2007 by Jason
Spider-Man 3 Japanese

Ever wonder what Spider-Man 3 looked like in Japanese? Yeah, I never did either, but this billboard located in Japan is pretty fucking sweet. Props go to film ick. Why couldn’t we get something that bad ass over here in the US? We’re stuck with some lame banner of Tobey Maguire tearing his shirt off like he’s Superman…

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters

April 16th, 2007 by Kevin
Flaming Chicken

I want to start this little review by saying one thing. Loved it, LOVED IT!

When I heard that and Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie was coming out, I immediately thought it would be bad. That’s not because I don’t like the show, because I do. Its not because I didn’t want to see an Aqua Teen movie, because I do. It was because I wasn’t sure anyone could stretch what is normally a 15-minute per episode show into a feature length movie. I was wrong.

Grindhouse

April 16th, 2007 by Kevin
Rose McGowan

There has been much excitement about Grindhouse recently in the world of movie fanatics. Generally Quentin Tarantino has a loyal fan base, ready to see his new film at the drop of a hat and Robert Rodriguez inexplicably has such devoted fans as well. Unfortunately, this double feature by the tandem did not meet any of its expectations in it opening weekend. In fact, the movie made about one third of its expected opening weekend gross. On the bright side, the lack of financial gain is not always a portent of quality in the movie industry. For example Millions, possibly the best movie of 2005, made barely over 6 million dollars domestically and the crap fest that is The Pacifier made over 113 million around the same time. How is this fair?

The 50 Million Dollar Man?

April 11th, 2007 by Kevin
Tom Hanks

Could Tom Hanks be making $50 mil for the prequel to the DaVinci Code? I know Tom Cruise has made around $100 million for some of his movies (most notably MI2), but that was mostly back-ended because of his producers credit. This would all be just Tom’s bill for showing up on screen. Craziness.
