Danny Boyle on Sunshine’s problems
We all know Sunshine was supposed to be released in the States next month, but has now been pushed back until the very end of ‘07. Why is this? Who knows. Everything I’ve read up to now has all been speculation and nothing has been confirmed.
The things I’ve read from people who have already seen the test screenings speak highly of the sci-fi thriller which means the movie has to be decent. However, an insider from Moviehole.net attended the ‘Popcorn Taxi’ Q&A with Danny Boyle and summarised what was revealed in the Question and Answer session. I’ll outline what I think are the most important points.
The budget was $40 million They spent 1 year in post production There were over 35 rewrites of the script They thought Cillian Murphy was too “attractive” to play a biologist, but then met a biologist who was helping out on the film and he was more “attractive” than Murphy, so it justified his casting. — Not important, I know, but I thought it was funny. The test screenings went “shit” cause the visual effects were not completed and he doesn’t think the audience could look past the incomplete effects. Boyle’s next film is about a guy who knows the answers to things and he goes on “who wants to be a millionaire” because the girl he likes watches the show. Boyle also turned down Alien:Resurrection because at the time he was too scared to handle the amount of effects involved in making the film.
We can obviously derive any assumptions we want from that list, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Sunshine isn’t “shit”.

I’m with you. The trailer looks great and the initial screenings seem to have gone well. It’s too bad we have to wait months to see it hit the screen.
Yet, this was the best movie i’ve seen in 2008. Much respect for the writers, actors, and Danny Boyle himself.
