Darren Aronofsky is at it again

It’s been a few years since writer and director Darren Aronofsky has made a movie. Actually, make that six years. His last film had to be Requiem for a Dream which came out in 2000. Two years prior to that, he wrote and directed Pi. Now in 2006 he’s coming out with another film that looks nothing short of a masterpiece.

Hugh Jackman Rachel Weisz

Darren Aronofsky has been on a hiatus for some time now, six years to be exact, so he’s had more than enough time to let his brain stew up another fantastic idea for him to relate to us on the big screen. This new Aronofsky film I’m talking about is The Fountain. Starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz, it’s about a man’s quest for immortality which spans over a thousand years and tells us of love, tragedy, and life. Judging from the trailer, the movie covers three different stories within three different time periods which each include Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz.

Aronofsky’s break is finally over and he’s dishing out his original movie goodness that I can’t get enough of. I loved Aronofsky’s early movies Pi and Requiem for a Dream so it’s needless to say I’ll be first in line to see this movie upon it’s release. The Fountain hits theaters November 22.

I’m excited about this. I noticed it’s being shown at the VIFF and I’m going to do my VERY best to get myself a ticket. I’m not sure I can wait ’til November…
