Eragon: Dragon with an “E”?

September 25th, 2006 | Categories: Action, Various | Tags:

I first heard of this movie several months back as the “Lord of the Rings knock off”. Am I a Lord of the Rings fan? Yes. Do I care that a knock off is being made? No. I’m definitely one of few though. Many people are up in arms over the fact that Eragon is trying to be the next Lord of the Rings.

Eragon Eragon
“I’m the rider and I say we go!”

Eragon, yes dragon with an “e”, is about this “dragon rider” who must command his people and lead them to victory in battle. Due to the fact that the main character is a dragon rider, he possesses magical powers. In other words, he’s able to tear shit up. Hence the reason he must lead his people to victory.

Let me begin by saying this trailer is utter crap. For those of you comparing Eragon to Lord of the Rings, get real. They look nothing alike. Yes, they’re both fantasy movies, but does that make them the same? No. Maybe similar, but not the same.

After watching the trailer, the movie looks like a joke. The name is lame, the dragons look horrible and the main actor looks like a complete tool. The only thing this movie has going for it is Jeremy Irons. You may remember him best by his role as the bad guy in Die Hard with a Vengeance. You know the movie makers are banking on him because the trailer consists of 90% Jeremy Irons and 10% everything else.

I bet most of the people who are claiming this movie is a Lord of the Rings knock off will go see the movie anyway. When Eragon is released I’m sure it’ll do decent opening weekend, but then drop off the face of the planet after that. DVD sales won’t even do well.

When thinking of something to turn into a movie, don’t use Eragon. If you must however, please, please, please change the name.

I agree that this looks nothing like LotR and yeah, it looks a bit cheesy but I’m still looking forward to it for its own merits. The story is pretty good and I’ll be cool to see it transformed into the big screen. I only hope that it’s better than D&D.

The comments on this page distress me, I am a big fan of Eragon I have enjoyed both books and looking forward to the last instalment. I think that the film will be great it doesn’t matter if the names are similar; it’s to do with the content not the cover and its totally different to lord of the rings, for starters the only dragon in LOTR is a firework. I am outraged to here that you think it will be a cheep nock off of LOTR, if Eragon had come out first would you say that LOTR is a cheep nock off of Eragon. Another point is how do you know if its rubbish if you haven’t even seen it yet, you should not judge thing on other peoples point of view, besides it might surprise you if you see it first hand you could end up loving it. I just don’t know how people can critter size something they haven’t seen.

Wow, first, i would like to say that the movie is entertaining, but it doesn’t hold a candle to LOTR. It has nothing to do with the book. Eragon the movie butchered the book. BUTCHERED. The movie is full of holes and other plot mistakes that is explained well in the book. LOTR started a genre of book that I quite enjoy. To ban other books of the same subject to come out would be silly because I enjoy them. The inheritance stroy is really good and I would recomend it to others. The first book is a little weak though. A note to Arya “”if Eragon had come out first would you say that LOTR is a cheep nock off of Eragon”" BUT, it didn’t come out first, therefore it is the cheap nock-off.

First of all, the movie was great. Second, all movies are butchered versions of the book, so stop whining. And to reply to Aragon, go spank it in the corner with your frodo doll, buddy, you’re obviously biased towards LOTR.

Did you watch the same movie I did? The script was horrible and the main character was the biggest tool I’ve ever seen. The only way the book could be good is if it has nothing to do with the movie.

come on guys!who the hell is saying that Eragon is TRYING to be the next LOTR? Offcourse its not. LOTR is amazing, but dont forget: to watch the whole story, u need to look at the films for 9 hours or so. Eragon is just 2 hours of joyfull fantasy adventures. I love LOTR myself, but im getting really pissed off now. Because LOTR was an amazing movie, others, that aren’t 9 hours long cant be good? If u put something up against LOTR it will lose. I am a huge fan of both LOTR and Eragon. I think they are great. Both movies and books. No movie can offcourse never sand up against the book, but i think Eragon is good.Just because its about fantasy and dragons and wars its not the same story as LOTR! And eragon is not trying to be the next LOTR. thats ridiculus. Try to be a little realistic

I for 1, COMPLEATLY agree with Mary, guy’s get a LIFE! Yes! LOTR is a GREAT mivie and an even greater book, but Eragon is NOTHING like it, exept for the fact that their both fantasy/action books, but that’s about it, don’t juge the movie by it’s traler! P.S I have bad spelling so forgive me for it.

I watched the movie and then read the book and they are NOT alike. I believe the movie was a bad presentation for the Eragon book. I believe LOTR is both a good movie and good book.

I saw the mvie before I read the 1st book(which I usually don’t do because I’m a huge book worm, after reading the book I thought that the movie was a great big disappointment. There were great special affects but….. you get the idea!

And I really agree with # 13 Garrett Hedlund is a hotty. I’m not a LOTR fan though I do watch movies as art, I not only watch for entertainment but I like stories with excellent and complicated plots. I really enjoy Steven Spielbergs works…. not all of them, but I like the way he approaches movie making!

P.S. by the way…sorry to bust yo bubble but edward speeler is sooooo much hotter than garret hedlund.

ya no edsahottie gotsa point. what will they do with the second movie if they cut so much out of the 1st one??? sorry if i kinda creep u out when i say this but they took out whole roran and katrina thing, the desert, when durza wounds eragon by slicing his back open. ewww. but eragons wound was one of the most important things for half of the second book. what the hell! i no im a geek but i luv those books and they totally screwed them ovr. hey do any of u know when the 3rd book coms out???

Jeremy Irons was so cool in this movie. i luv all his mvies. he was probably the only reason why i watched this mvie and because edward speeler and garret hedlund r hotties. but other than that i 90% agree with edsahottie and $lvr:). they butchered it. the book was an awesome adventer and so was the mvie(which was lame compared to the book) well look at it this way if you would have seen the mvie and nevr read the book all of yr opinions wood b different. k? giv em a break. god wat did u expect? they spent half of the $ on graphics for Saphira and the war wich was stupid because it only took like 10 minets of the mvie anyway overall the mvie was ok. k? plus the costumes sucked and when does the third book come out i don’t hav a damn clu.

okay first of all garrett is waaaaaay hotter than ed speelers butthe movie was great if you didnt read the book, it was too short though it was like an hour and 40 mins. they cut out too much and added total crap into it but i loved the books and i cant wait for the third book

First thing if you hate Eragon I hate you… Now the book was amazing and the movie was comepletely different but still good in its own little story. The one thing I hate about it though is it attracted all these little fans who didn’t know a damned thing about Eragon before they saw the trailer on T.V. then afterwards decided it would be cool to read the book si they could call themselves “Fans” amongst the rest of us real fans… I hope all of you who read the book after seeing the movie burn eternally in hell

First Of all i absolutly love both books but they couldnt have done a worse job with the movie I mean come on it says plain and clear that Arya has midnight blach hair and whaen eragon finds her shes in black leather clothes not some white fairy wedding dress that she flaunts around in looking like I said a fairy in a white wedding dress!!!!! I think that they shouldn’t ruin great books like Eragon and Eldest by making them into movies. I was completly and uterly disgusted and i hope they do a better job in the future!!!!!!!
