Marie Antoinette - Sofia Coppola’s New Flick

Marie Antoinette, due out October 13, looks nothing short of spectacular especially when it was written and directed by Sofia Coppola. Her short, but impressive portfolio of movies include, The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation — both of which are some of my favorites.

Marie Antoinette tells the story of a naive girl, Kirsten Dunst, who gets married by the age of 14 and later becomes Queen of France at 19. The film is based off a real life character which would make it a biography, but from the looks of it, it’s filmed more as a drama which will obviously appeal to a greater audience. The real life story of Marie Antoinette leads up to the French Revolution and eventually to her execution by guillotine in 1793.

Judging from the trailer, Coppola is taking a more lighthearted approach at portraying the carelessness attitude of Marie Antoinette throughout her young life while ruling over France. It’ll be fun to see in which direction Coppola takes the movie. Whether she’ll stay strictly to the real life character and have Dunst killed by the guillotine or take the movie in a completely different direction.

Kirsten Dunst has starred in other movies such as The Virgin Suicides, the Spider-Man series and Bring It On. I think she’s a great actress and will have no problems playing the role of Marie Antoinette.
