I ended up going out with my girlfriend last night to see Nicholas Gage’s new action/thriller Next based off a story written by Philip K. Dick. Philip K. Dick, if you don’t already know, is the brilliant mind behind the stories such as Blade Runner, Minority Report, and A Scanner Darkly. Unfortunately, Next didn’t hold it’s ground against any of the movies previously mentioned.

Although the premise was good, Next fell short on quite a few levels.

First, I was unimpressed with the acting. Even though I love Jessica Biel, her performance was probably the worst out of the whole lot. Second, the movie repeated itself more than it needed. I know it fit with the whole premise on how Nicholas Cage can see two minutes into the future, but I think it could of been done a little better. Third, I thought the movie could of been longer. It just ended without any real closure on anything.

Overall, Next wasn’t horrible, but at the same time wasn’t good either. It’s one of those rainy day DVDs and isn’t worth the nine dollar admission fee into a theater.
