All throughout the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s, Tom Cruise made a huge collection of blockbuster movies including Top Gun, Cocktail, Jerry Maguire, Mission Impossible, Mission Impossible II, and Collateral among many others. These movies turned Cruise into a movie star. Well, not just a movie star, but a superstar. Everyone loved him. I believe the female demographic was actually his largest audience. This was a huge benefit for the guys, because they wouldn’t have to drag their girlfriends to the latest Cruise flick, they would come willingly. Those days however, seem to be fading quickly. Not only does Cruise seem to be losing popularity among the ladies, guys are drifting away too.

I’m sure all this began with the infamous relationship between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Originally we heard of it, but didn’t really think much of it until we saw Cruise make a complete ass out of himself on the Oprah show. For some reason I don’t think jumping on top of a couch is the right way to say you love someone. People just think you’re crazy. After that, his popularity began to fall.

I’m not sure though on why his female demographic that used to follow him so closely doesn’t like him anymore. Sure what he did on the Oprah show was stupid, but can you really hold that against him forever? He was ‘blinded by love’. So, are there any other underlying reasons? Is it because the ladies thought they might have a slim chance of getting with the handsome Tom Cruise when him and Nicole Kidman called it quits, ending their long term relationship and now they can’t because he has Katie? Or is it just because they think he’s weird?

Well, how weird is he really? If you take a step back and think of all the people in Hollywood you might realize for a moment that most of the stars aren’t what we’d consider normal. I mean Mel Gibson just got pulled over and issued a DUI and in the process called the female officer “sugar tits”. Haley Joel Osment was also charged with a DUI and possession of marijuana. Not only that, but he also broke a rib in the process. Oh, and when has Madonna ever been normal? Do you see where I’m going?

Hollywood is filled with a bunch of weirdos. Just because Tom Cruise jumps on a couch, doesn’t make him a weirdo? It just makes him normal, because we all do stupid things from time to time. I still love his movies and even though I don’t understand the whole Scientology thing, I’m still going to support him as an actor.

Now that Cruise has split from Paramount, I’m excited to see in which direction he’ll go with his next film. Whatever it is, you can be sure I’ll be there to see it opening day.
